Do I need a referral?

No, this treatment does not require a referral, but can be referred through your family doctor or a walk-in clinic.

Is this covered by OHIP?

No, this treatment is not covered by OHIP.  In some cases, however, the treatment may be covered by your third-party insurer.  Please contact your insurer for details.

Is there an extra cost for the external treatment?

There is no extra cost for the external treatment. This is an option that will be determined by you and your NOWW physician based on your symptoms and physical exam.

What is the recovery time?

After treatment, you may return to regular activities same day.  If you have had an internal treatment only, you may return to sexual activity after 2 days.  If you have also had the external treatment, you may return to sexual activity after 4 days.  Also for the external treatment, baths and heavy lifting should be avoided for 48 hours.  Showers are fine at any time after treatment.

What symptoms can I expect?

After treatment, you may experience some discharge or light spotting (bleeding). If you have had an external treatment, you may experience some mild discomfort (like a sunburn), for which you may take Ibuprofen.

How soon will I notice an improvement?

You may notice an improvement in both lubrication and elasticity in as little as 2 days.  With each subsequent treatment, you will notice ongoing improvements in your symptoms.

Are there any known complications?

There have been no serious complications documented with this treatment, which has been performed worldwide.

How many treatments are needed?

It depends on how serious the symptoms are. We usually recommended 1 to 3 treatments, 40-60 days apart, followed by a possible annual maintenance treatment if required.

Are there any contraindications?

There is no exclusion criteria for MonaLisa Touch ®, other than those related to serious local or systemic diseases. In general, all women who have gynecologic disorders like dryness, laxity, burning and itching can benefit from this treatment; however, your doctor must determine whether you are compatible.
