What to expect

Your whole initial treatment from consultation to completion will take on average between 40 minutes to 1 hour.  Subsequent treatments can be completed in as little as 20 minutes.  Below is an outline of what to expect every step of the way, or read our Frequently Asked Questions for even more information.

Consultation

 15-20 minutes

Your symptoms and medical history will be reviewed.  A physical examination will be done.  If the laser treatment is right for you, you can have it performed same day, or reschedule at another time.

External Vulvar Treatment Prep Time

 15 minutes

Together, you and your physician will decide whether to treat the external skin with the laser in addition to the internal treatment.  If you proceed with this option, a freezing cream will be applied by the clinic nurse.

Treatment

 5 minutes

During the internal treatment, a 1in diameter laser probe will be inserted. The laser is activated as the probe is gently withdrawn. You may experience a slight vibration during the treatment. This internal treatment lasts under 2 minutes in its entirety. Watch Video
External Treatment (optional) – the laser probe will be changed and laser energy will be applied to the external skin. You may experience a mild sensation during this part of the treatment. This adds about a minute of time to the treatment.

External Vulvar Treatment Post Time

 15 minutes (optional)

If the external skin was treated, an ice pack will be applied to the vulva for 15 minutes.  Before you leave, a barrier cream (like a Vasoline) will be applied for your comfort.
